Five ways an equipment purchase goes wrong

Downgraded components — a cheaper motor, drive or controller than the one discussed, inside an identical-looking machine

Missing safety equipment — guarding and interlocks treated as optional extras, which is a problem for both your staff and your compliance

Incomplete scope — tooling, dies, feeders or software licences quoted as accessories and then absent

Documentation gaps — no declaration of conformity, no technical file, manuals only in Chinese

No spare parts strategy — a wear part that takes eight weeks to obtain and stops the line while you wait

Acceptance test

We attend, the machine runs, we check it against the specification and record it on video. Problems are resolved before packing, not after arrival.

Crating, freight, arrival

Export crating appropriate to the equipment, the right transport mode for the dimensions, and the documentation your import needs.

Common questions

Why does equipment need different handling from goods?

Because a machine is a configuration, not a product. Two quotations with the same model name can differ in the motor, the controller, the safety guarding and what counts as an accessory. The cheapest quote is usually the one with the most things quietly left out, and that only becomes visible when the crate is opened.

What is a factory acceptance test and why insist on it?

Running the machine at the manufacturer's premises, on your material where possible, before it is packed. It is the last moment at which a problem is cheap. Once equipment is on a ship, a missing component turns a two-day fix into a two-month one.

Does CE marking apply to machinery we import?

Machinery placed on the EU market falls within the machinery legislation and generally requires CE marking, a declaration of conformity and a technical file. The importer established in the EU carries real obligations here. Chinese manufacturers vary enormously in how seriously they take this, which is precisely why the paperwork has to be checked before purchase rather than after arrival.

What about installation and after-sales?

We agree it in the contract rather than assume it. Depending on the equipment that can mean supervised installation, remote commissioning support, a spare parts package bought with the machine, or training for your operators. Spares in particular are far cheaper ordered with the line than sourced urgently a year later.
